Back when I started Queer Film Reviews, my “5 Queer RomComs For Valentine’s Day” was the first non-holiday post on the site. I felt that it was the best post theme, because everyone loves romcoms. And Valentine’s Day simply calls for both romance and a dash of comedy.
So as Queer Film Reviews goes into it’s SIXTH year, I felt it fitting to revisit Queer RomComs, especially since they’re PERFECT for Valentine’s Day. Which is what I’ve got 5 MORE Queer RomComs for Valentine’s Day to share with you below!
Now I’ve featured a few of the films below before, which makes sense because their either a great queer romance film or a great comedy film. But they certainly belong here when you combine romance and comedy into the romcom genre!
But don’t worry, I’ve included a few new romcoms as well. One is a classic queer romcom that is often overlooked. But the other two are recent films that you probably know. But even if you do, all five of these queer romcoms are worth rewatching.
So curl up under a blanket with your partner (or a pillow if you’re single like me!) and check out these five Queer RomComs for Valentine’s Day!
5 MORE Queer Romcoms for Valentine’s Day
“After an altercation between Alex, the president’s son, and Britain’s Prince Henry at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder, their long-running feud now threatens to drive a wedge in U.S./British relations. When the rivals are forced into a staged truce, their icy relationship begins to thaw and the friction between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.” – IMDb
I’m a sucker for queer romcoms! So Amazon’s latest queer film, “Red, White & Royal Blue” hits just the right spots for me! Based on Casey McQuiston’s novel, this film adaptation takes some liberties from the source material, but I don’t mind the changes. Although even in today’s liberally tolerant society, the general plot is a bit of a stretch for the sake of realism. But despite the film’s few faults, it’s still a major improvement over many Hallmark romcoms. “Red, White & Royal Blue” is simply enjoyable to watch! So if you haven’t seen it yet, I encourage you to head to Prime Video and check it out.

“Gabriel, an aspiring writer of Broadway musicals, meets Mark, a muscled stripper, who picks him up on the subway. They spend the night trying to find somewhere to be alone… forced to contend with Gabriel’s selfish roommate, his irritating best friend, and a vicious, jealous drag queen in a gay dance club. The sun rises on a promising new relationship.” – IMDb
“Trick” is an older film, but quite delightful one to watch! I recall friends having this on VHS… yes, THAT old! Yet this farcical Rom-Com keeps giving us one crazy twist after another in ways that make us laugh and even smile. It’s a delight to watch, though clearly a small independent film. It truly is a staple of queer cinema, and was far ahead of it’s time when it was released in 1999. If you’ve never taken time to watch this classic, find yourself a copy today of this queer music film. “Trick” is that enjoyable!
Watch Trick on Amazon, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Criterion Channel, and Tubi.
“Adam and Steve are two gay youths who have a one-night stand that ends embarrassingly. Nearly two decades later, Adam, now a Manhattan tour guide, and Steve, a psychiatrist, meet again — but neither remembers the other from years before. The two begin dating, even playing matchmaker for their friends Michael and Rhonda, but their promising relationship hits a major snag when Adam and Steve finally recall their past connection.” – IMDb
“Adam & Steve” is one of my favorite queer comedy films. It’s quirky, a bit absurd, and is full of unique characters with a fun storyline. But I think I enjoy this queer film most because our leads aren’t Abercrombie models or stuck up A-list gays. Adam and Steve aren’t perfect, and their romantic relationship is certainly not without comedic issues! But this is a film where despite all of that, our leads end up together as a cute couple. With tons of comedy and jokes, it’s also enjoyable to watch. So add this queer film to your watch list, as “Adam & Steve” is definitely worth watching!

“Bobby is a neurotic podcast host who’s happy to go on Tinder dates and content not to have a serious relationship. That all changes when he meets Aaron, an equally detached lawyer who likes to play the field. Repeatedly drawn to each other, both men begin to show their vulnerable sides as their undeniable attraction turns into something resembling a commitment.” – IMDb
“Bros” had a LOT of hype leading up to it’s premiere, but ended up falling a bit flat in cinemas. A lot of it is due to Billy Eichner, who not only helped write the script but stars as one of our two gay leading men. Eichner is someone you either love or hate, which I think led to some of the mixed reviews. Personally, I found it difficult to relate to or even empathize with his character Bobby; it felt like he was being himself and not his character. However, I loved Luke Macfarlane as Aaron! While it took me a bit to see them as a couple, which is again part due to how the script portrays their relationship, they have some great moments together – basically whenever Eichner stops being annoying. So throw out what the critics said and give “Bros” a watch and decide for yourself whether it’s a good queer film!
Watch Bros on Amazon, Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Peacock TV.
“Set in the iconic Pines, Andrew Ahn’s “FIRE ISLAND” is an unapologetic, modern day rom-com showcasing a diverse, multicultural examination of queerness and romance. Inspired by the timeless pursuits from Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice, the story centers around two best friends (Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang) who set out to have a legendary summer adventure with the help of cheap rosé and their cadre of eclectic friends.” – IMDb
“Fire Island” is what you get when B-list gays who pretend to be A-list gays while holidaying on Fire Island mix with actual A-list gays – with hilarious results. And I LOVED it! Now, this queer film is full of cliche stereotypes, awkward situations, and unexpected interactions – but that’s part of what makes it enjoyable to watch. Interestingly enough, the two main romances blossom under the guise of opposites attract. And there’s the obvious literary references to Jane Austin’s novel. But it’s simply enjoyable to watch and it’s hard to not get caught up with the romantic gestures that lead to a cute ending. If you haven’t seen it yet, then definitely add “Fire Island” to your watch list!
Watch Fire Island on Hulu.
