5 Even MORE Queer Comedy Films

    Posted on 1 July, 2024

Of all the genres out there, the one that almost everyone loves is Comedy. In fact, I’ve already written about it – twice! First was 5 Queer Comedy Films in 2022, and then 5 MORE Queer Comedy Films in 2023. There’s just something quirky and fun about comedy films that are entertaining to watch. However, the thing I most like about the comedy genre is that it covers SO many varieties. Even IMDb’s genre definition…

5 Even MORE Queer Drama Films

    Posted on 1 March, 2025

When I shared my first selection of 5 Queer Drama Films back in 2022, I noted that it was quite difficult to choose how to pare it down to JUST 5. After all, there are TONS of amazing queer drama films. This task is made trickier because most drama films are not JUST a drama film. Rather, they often go hand-in-hand with other genres. While these combinations don’t have their own fancy nickname like romcoms…

5 MORE Queer Romcoms for Valentine’s Day

    Posted on 1 January, 2025

Back when I started Queer Film Reviews, my “5 Queer RomComs For Valentine’s Day” was the first non-holiday post on the site. I felt that it was the best post theme, because everyone loves romcoms. And Valentine’s Day simply calls for both romance and a dash of comedy. So as Queer Film Reviews goes into it’s SIXTH year, I felt it fitting to revisit Queer RomComs, especially since they’re PERFECT for Valentine’s Day. Which is…

    The Christmas House

    Posted on 16 December, 2022

[“The Christmas House” is the third film of my “5 Queer Holiday Films for 2022” post. To read the next review, “The Christmas House 2: Deck Those Halls”, click HERE. To read the previous review, “Happiest Season“, click HERE.] Back in 2020, Hallmark created QUITE a stir after first promising a gay holiday film in their annual Countdown to Christmas lineup, then “forgetting” to include it when the released the lineup – before finally caving…

    êmîcêtôsêt: Many Bloodlines

    Posted on 13 February, 2021

“êmîcêtôsêt: Many Bloodlines” is quite a special queer short film. Winner of HotDocs 2020 Best Canadian Short Documentary, this queer short film is simply stunning. This self produced and self written story follows Stefani and Theola on their journey through pregnancy and into parenthood. It’s real and authentic, especially because Theola fully embraces and wants to include her Cree heritage. Together they candidly talk about themselves whilst finding their way through IVF as a lesbian couple….

    Even MORE Queer Romance Films

    Posted on 11 March, 2024

When you think of film genres, there are a few that will jump to most folk’s mind: Drama, Comedy, Action, … and Romance! In fact, many of these common genres are often combined as the key elements of each genre work well with others. For example, Romance and Comedy blend into another genre itself: the Romcom! But today, I’m focusing mainly on the Romantic elements – even if some of the films below incorporate other…

    The Holiday Exchange

    Posted on 14 December, 2025

When “The Holiday Exchange” was announced back in April 2023, I was rather intrigued. So it was quite a disappointment when the holidays came – and the film’s released didn’t happen. Thankfully, we were treated to this queer film’s release in 2024. But was it worth waiting for? After all, it’s essentially the gay version of “The Holiday”, a classic heterosexual film. Overall this queer holiday film has issues that many have called out, but…

    The Lawyer

    Posted on 30 September, 2020

When I was approached to review “The Lawyer”, aka “Advokatas”, TLA Releasing’s most recently acquired film by Dekkoo Films, I was intrigued. The plot caught my attention; the trailer was stunningly beautiful while hinting at something a bit dark and mysterious – I wanted to know more. With this film being reported as the first feature film from the Baltic countries featuring male homosexual love, it had some large shoes to try and fill. Unfortunately,…

(For those of you looking for something different, unfortunately this post isn’t for you). If you’re after some great queer romcoms, you can check out this…

    Queer Coming Out Films

    Posted on 1 October, 2023

Coming out is a special and signification milestone for every queer person. For some, it’s a positive experience as family and friends both welcome and may have already suspected it. For others it may not be the best experience of their lives, but it works out in the end. Mine falls into that category, and you can read all about it HERE. But for many, it still is a negative moment; something that is not…

    Queer Thriller Films

    Posted on 1 September, 2022

Just in time for Halloween, this month’s theme is queer thrillers! Murders, political games, terrorism, and more all unfold within each of these five films. Each have certain elements that make them all great films to watch – however, while they all list themselves as a queer thriller… one does not match the others. Is it actually a thriller film? Hmm… To be fair, when I selected this month’s films I had only seen three…
