Fathers of the Bride: A Yuletide Wedding Comedy

Synopsis:

Directed by Paul A. Hart, “Fathers of the Bride: A Yuletide Wedding Comedy” follows the story of Leo and Rich (Peter Szeliga and Bruce L. Hart), Michelle’s two dads. Michelle (Brooke Riley St Johns) is getting married but initially wants to skip the ceremony. Amidst the chaos of organizing their yearly Christmas bash, her dads persuade Michelle to opt for a grand wedding, fulfilling their own dream of the elaborate ceremony they never had. Chaos ensues, and a less-than-pleasant feud erupts between Rich and his sister-in-law, Angela (Raphaella Dreyer), over who truly is a real family member and thus qualified to plan the wedding. Despite the ups and downs, lessons are learned, and audiences can expect a heartwarming and happy ending. West Hollywood’s own Dr. Christmas AKA Bob Pranga plays a role spoofing his own career as a Christmas decorator. —Marcus Avila

Quick Thoughts:

The daughter of the wedding at the heart of the story are a gay couple, together for 15 years but didn’t have their own wedding. So they become a bit stereotypical and push for the wedding of their daughter’s dreams (and theirs!) As expected, things quickly go overboard and drama ensues before it all is reined back in for a rather beautiful wedding. But something felt missing while watching this queer holiday film, almost as it if lacked fun and life. An acting style more suited for a drama rather than a comedy. I even thought a few times that the gay characters are stereotypically flamboyant – yet still, not gay enough to be joyful and entertaining! Yet despite this, I actually enjoyed “Fathers of the Bride: A Yuletide Wedding Comedy” and think it’s worth checking out!
