Quick Thoughts:
This queer holiday film has been on my watch list for a while, but at first glance it never seemed like a holiday film. So when I finally sat down to watch “1985”, I had no expectations. In fact, the significance of the film’s title, the fact that it’s filmed entirely in black & white, and the unspoken heaviness throughout the film actually did not sink in towards the end of the film when all of the pieces fell into place. Which make it quite a powerful film! It’s beautiful, yet haunting and tragic in a way that just hits you. While the Christmas aspect of the storyline is not a strong focus and it’s not the happiest of films, it’s quite clear that “1985” is a queer holiday film that is worth watching.
