Flesh Gordon

While I knew right away that this would be a spoof of the classic B-Movie “Flash Gordon”, by the end I was not impressed. Not even with a Penisaurus and an abundance of nudity and sex-crazed orgies thrown about! However, I’ve also never seen “Flash Gordon”. So perhaps that’s a huge factor in why I was a bit disappointed in this apparently very detailed and close to the original spoof. Interestingly, the special effects on this film were rather impressive for the time – even on a shoestring budget! But perhaps the biggest reason I was disappointed is that the only queer element is a scene with the Amazonian lesbians. They tie Dale down naked and try to convert her with a lesbian sex ritual, but beyond that scene there is very little to consider queer about “Flesh Gordon”. Reportedly, there were homosexual sex scenes filmed – however all hardcore shots were confiscated for being too obscene. Perhaps if they were left in, I would’ve been more impressed! If you’re looking for a spoof of a classic science fiction film, then I’d suggest giving this queer sci-fi film a go. Perhaps you’ll enjoy it more than I!
