A 90’s Christmas

Synopsis:

Workaholic lawyer Lucy Miller is celebrating her promotion alone on Christmas Eve when a mysterious rideshare experience transports her back to 1999. Reliving the holiday with her mom, sister and best friend – not to mention her high school crush – Lucy gets a second chance to understand where her relationships went wrong. Will this magical journey help her rewrite her future or leave her destined to be alone?

Quick Thoughts:

“A 90’s Christmas” is another of the queer storylines we got in Hallmark’s 2024 lineup. Except this time, it’s a lesbian one. Our leading lady Lucy is our cliche “Scrooge” character who has to be shown what she needs to do to bring some happiness back into her closed-off life. The magical time travel back to 1999 is a bit wacky, but equally is a fun flashback for many Millennials who grew up in the 90’s. Of course we have the important message of family and relationships, along with how important it is to face our grief and issues so they don’t overwhelm us and lead to a lonely life.

One of the most heartfelt moments is when Lucy realises that she hadn’t taken care of her sister at that rough time for her family. While Lucy is aware that her sister is a lesbian from her normal timeline, she lets Alexa know that it’s perfectly fine – and to not be afraid to tell everyone, including their mother. As the clichéd holiday movie plots go, in the end Lucy gets everything she realizes she was missing in a way that improves her life. “A 90’s Christmas” is a fun throwback to yesteryear with a queer side story that is enjoyable to watch!
