Quick Thoughts:
I actually discovered this queer holiday short film during an online search for new holiday films. I was quite pleased to discover something from Nigeria, where homosexuality and same-sex activities are actually criminalized. However it’s obvious that this is an amateur production. The sound quality is not balanced and rather difficult to hear at times, which when paired with an accent that most of us are not familiar with, makes it difficult to understand. The premise of the short film is rather simple, but drives home the key point regarding how being gay in Nigeria is such a risk – even from family members. It’s free to watch on YouTube, so I encourage everyone to take fifteen minutes to give it a watch. Remember, we can only get amazing queer films by supporting the indie filmmakers.
