Upstairs Inferno

Synopsis:

On June 24, 1973, a gay bar in New Orleans called the Up Stairs Lounge was deliberately set on fire: an event that for over 40 years, was considered the “Largest Gay Mass Murder in U.S. History”.

Quick Thoughts:

Robert L. Camina has delivered yet another powerful queer documentary with “Upstairs Inferno.” The story of the arson at Up Stairs Lounge in new Orleans is tragic, and unfortunately forgotten by many LGBTQ folk. However with this documentary, Camina is bringing life back into one of an important moment in LGBT history. While the Pulse nightclub shooting in 2019 eclipsed the lives lost at Up Stairs Lounge, it’s important that we do not forget our history. I strongly encourage every queer person to watch this documentary!
