The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

Synopsis:

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadow Hunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called the Shadow World, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Quick Thoughts:

I’ll confess that I didn’t watch “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” until after having watched – and then rewatched, the series that expanded upon the story: “Shadowhunters”. The premise of this feature film iteration is based on the first book by Cassandra Clare. The key plot is of Clary being drawn into a new world to fight against Valentine, who’s trying to eradicate the world of Downworlders: vampires, werewolves, and demons. Even though many Downworlders work with the Shadowhunters to keep a peace for the rest of humanity. And it still holds onto the queer storyline between Alec and warlock Magnus, although it’s not as key due to this film focusing on Clary’s story. However it’s worth watching, especially if you’re a fan of the TV series: “Shadowhunters”.
