The Decameron

Synopsis:

In 1348, as the Black Death strikes hard in the city of Florence. A handful of nobles are invited to retreat with their servants to a grand villa in the Italian countryside and wait out the pestilence with a lavish holiday. But as social rules wear thin, what starts as a wine-soaked sex romp in the hills of Tuscany descends into an all out scramble for survival.

Quick Thoughts:

“The Decameron” is a WILD ride! While the trailer caught my eye as I was scrolling for something to watch on Netflix, it wasn’t until I read an article about how queer the series is before I sat down to give it a watch. And I’m glad I did – oh, and it most certainly is queer! From the closeted bisexual married Panfilo to a couple lesbian/female romances, there’s no hiding the sexual activities among the cloistered new-found friends in their Tuscan villa. However, it’s the black comedy that really kept me captivated. The writers, along with a talented cast, are able to pull off that comedic balance of bursting out laughing at the absurd yet equally wondering: what am I even watching. With hour long episodes, this queer romp is best suited for a weekend binge – but I recommend you give it a go!
