Stillman’s Portrait

5.0

Synopsis:

Stillman’s Portrait is about a closeted 28 year old in New York who is struggling to paint a self-portait for his solo debut at a Chelsea gallery. In search of inspiration, in the form of an old portrait, Stillman journeys to his seaside hometown where he faces the trial of reuniting with his estranged father at the family’s boat workshop.

Quick Thoughts:

A painter struggling to create a new showpiece, missing the key to unlock the portrait in his mind. A key that potentially is back at home with his estranged father, but requires a different self journey and an attempt to reconnect and finally reveal his true self. With a bit of an art film feel to it, there’s something special about Stillman’s journey in “Stillman’s Portrait”. But hidden behind this beautiful film is an even deeper message of acceptance; in a way, this queer short film is a reflection of writer/director Joshua Davy‘s personal life. Definitely find the time to watch “Stillman’s Portrait” – it’s certainly worth it!
