Quick Thoughts:
This queer documentary is difficult to watch. And just a heads up, there are graphic images videos shown that are triggering. However, this documentary is important to watch for two key reasons. The first is so that we can better understand the horror it is for our LGBTQ brothers & sisters in the Middle East – or anywhere where their lives are in danger due to religious and governmental beliefs. But second, this is a story of romance that blossom in that horror and survived countless hurdle after hurdle. I’m an immigrant myself, and it was not an easy process. But the hoops that Btoo and Nayyef had to jump through is shocking. To think that their love survived all of this – and continues to thrive, is a powerful message that’s worth watching.
