An Unexpected Christmas

Synopsis:

Jamie hasn’t told his family that he and his now ex-girlfriend Emily broke up. After an inopportune run-in with Emily at the train station in his hometown, Jamie convinces her to pretend they’re still a couple to avoid ruining Christmas for his family. Jamie and Emily engage in a week-long ruse of engaging in his family’s holiday activities together. While they’re stuck in his family’s home together, the pair discovers their relationship might still have some potential, resulting in a very unexpected Christmas.

Quick Thoughts:

Overall, “An Unexpected Christmas” is not a bad Hallmark holiday film – but is it queer? The answer is “kinda”. The main storyline has absolutely no queer relevance, as it’s a heterosexual romcom. However Emily’s sister, Becca, is eventually noted as being lesbian. So we have queer representation. Until it’s then noted that Becca is back living at home after her partner left her after they adopted a son. Eeks… not such a positive representation. Frankly, I wouldn’t watch this holiday film if you’re looking for good LGBTQ representation. But as a Hallmark holiday film, it’s not horrible.
