Peking Turkey

Synopsis:

Chris Wong takes his French-Canadian boyfriend home for Christmas, despite his traditional Chinese parents’ disapproval. With the dramatics of three languages swirling around the table, Pierre tries to make a bond with Chris’ parents and find the approval he wants.

Quick Thoughts:

First of all, even though there’s turkey in this queer holiday short’s title, it’s not a Thanksgiving film but a Christmas film. While a bit slow and clearly some amateur film work, I actually enjoyed it! The premise of cross-culture love, juxtaposed against the humor of saying things in a language that you presume the others cannot understand makes it rather comedic at times. Would be interesting to see how director Micheal Mew could take this to the next level, but it’s a great queer holiday short by itself.
