Down Low

Synopsis:

A deeply repressed man, the uninhibited young man that gives him a happy ending, and all the lives they ruin along the way.

Quick Thoughts:

I was a bit apprehensive about “Down Low”, as it has gotten rather mixed reviews online. Some viewers raved about this queer comedy; other’s ripped it to shreds for being completely unrealistic and not actually funny. So what did I think? I LOVED it! “Down Low” is the kind of film that if you go into with any preconceived ideas or heck, even a firm insistence on being realistic, then you will be disappointed. It is a black comedy, and so much of black comedy is about the absurd. It’s about finding the comedy among serious circumstances – like a dead body, or even murder. Now, this queer comedy is not without faults – but it captivated my attention. “Down Low” is not a film for everyone, that’s for certain. But if you enjoy other queer films like “9 Dead Gay Guys”, then “Down Low” is a great addition to the queer black comedy niche!
