Cup of Cheer

Synopsis:

In a comedic shakeup of every cheesy Christmas movie, a big city journalist goes to a small town for the holidays and finds herself in an unlikely romance with the owner of a struggling hot cocoa shop.

Quick Thoughts:

“Cup of Cheer” is to cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies like “Scary Movie” is to horror – except the parody of “Scary Movie” is actually funny. The only interesting thing about this train wreck is my shock at the decent cinematography for indie studio Sideways Dogs Productions. And I have to give kuddos to the entire cast for attempting to make this “parody” funny. But comedy, especially parody, requires a unique balance between wit, humor, and delivery. This queer holiday film has none of that. What’s sad is that the premise actually is decent and has great potential; but this attempt is quite simply a flop. However, between the flamboyantly gay prince from the past and the AliExpress Tom Holland as Chris’ gay younger brother, it’s at least a queer holiday film. It just isn’t funny, and the only reason I watched the entire film is because I hoped maybe it would get better. It didn’t. Best to avoid.
