The Bubble

(Ha-Buah)

Synopsis:

The movie follows a group of young friends in the city of Tel Aviv and is as much a love song to the city as it is an exploration of the claim that people in Tel Aviv are isolated from the rest of the country and the turmoil it’s going through. The movie looks at young people’s lives in Tel Aviv through the POVs of gays and straights, Jews and Arabs, men and women.

Quick Thoughts:

“The Bubble” is perhaps one of my favourite queer films, yet sadly it’s not even on most folk’s radar! Also known by it’s original Hebrew title, ” Ha-Buah”, it is a beautiful yet hauntingly tragic gay romance that evokes the heart of Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet”. Set amid the Israel/Palestinian divide, Director/Writer along with co-writer show that love truly has no bounds and can cross political and religious borders. It’s a story that perhaps echoes even more today as the world continues to divide itself by continuing to allow homophobia and anti-cross-cultural romances hatred to survive. With brilliant acting all around, and an incredible soundtrack, “The Bubble” is a queer romance film that will tug at your heartstrings. Do yourself a favor and watch this film today!
