RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under

Synopsis:

RuPaul’s Drag Race spin-off series featuring drag queens from Australia and New Zealand competing to become Down Under’s Drag Superstar.

Quick Thoughts:

“Drag Race Down Under” premiered in 2021, and has become something that’s hotly debated worldwide! Like the UK spinoff, “Down Under” is hosted by RuPaul with Michelle Visage joining the judging panel. I’ll admit that since I live in New Zealand now, I have a personal fondness for “Down Under” – despite some of the valid issues with this version. For starters, the budget was visibly much lower… with a smaller set and a smaller cast. Locally, it has created a bit of a stir since both Kiwi and Aussie queens are able to enter the competition. It also didn’t help that the first two seasons were won by Kiwi queens, which made some of our Aussie queens across the ditch not so happy! However there’s a quirky humour that we have down in this part of the world that captivates some, but divides others. It’s still a fun spinoff to watch – even if you’re only watching to make fun of it!
