The Perfect Date

Synopsis:

Brooks Rattigan has the academic chops to get into his dream Ivy League school, but he’s missing an outstanding extracurricular–and the money. When he seizes on an opportunity to make some extra cash by posing as the boyfriend of a self-assured, combat-boot-loving girl named Celia Lieberman, he finds that he has a knack for being the perfect stand-in. With his programmer friend Murph, Brooks launches an app selling himself as a plus-one for all occasions. Along the way, he meets the girl of his dreams. But when business starts to boom, Brooks must reassess everything of which he was once sure.

Quick Thoughts:

“The Perfect Date” was something that caught my eye while scrolling for something light and fun to watch on Netflix one night. And while it’s very predictable featuring a heterosexual pairing of the overdone trope of “strangers are forced together and end up falling in love”, it was cute and did what I was hoping: it entertained. But why am I including it in the Database? Because the best friend side-story, Murph, IS gay – and has a cute crush on a guy who comes into the sub shop they work at. But don’t watch “The Perfect Date” for that, they’re barely on screen. If you’re after a cute queer romcom, then there’s plenty of better options in the Database. But if you’re after something mindless and entertaining, give it a go.
