Theater Camp

Synopsis:

As summer rolls around again, kids are gathering from all over to attend AdirondACTS, a scrappy theater camp in upstate New York that’s a haven for budding performers. After its indomitable founder Joan falls into a coma, her clueless “crypto-bro” son Troy is tasked with keeping the thespian paradise running. With financial ruin looming, Troy must join forces with Amos, Rebecca-Diane, and their band of eccentric teachers to come up with a solution before the curtain rises on opening night.

Quick Thoughts:

When I finally was able to watch “Theater Camp”, I was a tad confused. I couldn’t see what all the hype was about. Sure, the ending is uplifting and quite enjoyable – but in order to get to that low point where everything suddenly comes together to create magic meant going through darker moments than I expected. There also was something about Ben Platt’s character that irked me. I likely need to rewatch “Theater Camp”, but for now I leave it up to you to decide if this is a good queer film or not.
