Quick Thoughts:
I was completely unaware of “Campfire Christmas” when it came out, but I thorougly enjoyed this cute ensemble romcom! Interstingly, the main part of the story takes place in July – during a “Christmas in July” celebration! Which is still full of holiday cheer and the cheesy holiday “Hallmark”-esque cliches to include as a queer holiday film. While the two leads are not gay themselves, the queer element comes in with Peyton’s close friend Beckett and his “arch-nemesis” Chris. Even though they both play into cliche stereotypes of gay guys and of course, the only two gay guys in the film end up together after years of thinking they hate each other – but it’s still rather endearing to watch! So throw out any conception for something new, embrace the cliches and tropes, and enjoy this queer holiday film!
