Spaghetti Romance

Synopsis:

Set in Sicily, Abby meets her girlfriend’s conservative mother for the first time. When the encounter goes awry, she decides to take matters into her own hands — Italian style.

Quick Thoughts:

Overall, this is a rather cute lesbian short film full of cultural differences, family acceptance, and how food can help bridge the gap between it all. The short is a bit slow to get going though, and I was rather distracted by some amateur camera work with the subjects being out of focus at the wrong time. But I have to commend the efforts in creating an entertaining script. Is it realistic? Not really. I wasn’t buying that Margherita’s mother was disgusted by the lesbian displays of affection. And while I loved the premise and the failed efforts that Abby goes into making an authentic Sicilian spaghetti, I also don’t believe that a single dish of pasta is enough to change the mother’s opinion. But despite this issues, I actually love the heart of this lesbian short film. And that is why it’s worth watching!
